Frequently Asked Questions
How long does it take to make a mobile?
A mobile can take anywhere from a day to a little over a week to make. The time frame all depends on how many orders I have ahead of yours, the complexity of the mobile, and how busy my days are. I work alone on these mobiles, so creation, assembly, and shipping are all dependent on my schedule.
How can I hang my mobile?
These mobiles are very light weight, so it doesn’t take much to keep them stuck to the ceiling. Personally, my favorite method is to use a 3M poster strip and a paper clip. Open the paper clip to 90 degrees, stick it to the wall side of the 3M strip, and stick the strip to the ceiling above where you want to hang the mobile. You can also use a metal hook that you screw into the ceiling. For a drop ceiling you can just tie the string around the metal frame of the ceiling tiles. Always make sure the mobile is well secured to the ceiling and will not fall if you hang it above a crib!!!
How do I pay for a mobile?
I accept payment through PayPal. You can pay using a credit card, and you do not have to have a PayPal account. I prefer to accept payment this way because it’s a safe, secure, and fast way to pay, and it protects everyone’s privacy. It also allows me to pay for and print shipping labels right then and there without needing to copy the shipping address (preventing mistakes in copying the addresses). In some cases I do accept checks or money orders, but in those cases I do not start working on the mobiles until I receive payment.
When do you start working on my mobile?
I do not start work until I have received cleared payment. I am always doing prep work – cutting and bending wires, tying beads to strings, and folding paper cranes, but I do not assemble anything until I receive payment.
How is my mobile packaged and shipped?
I ship mobiles in their completed and assembled state so you don’t have to put anything together once you receive your mobile. I pack mobiles in tissue paper so the birds are not crushed or damaged despite all the jostling they go through during shipping. Extra nylon thread wrapped around a piece of cardstock is what you lift your mobile out of the box with. About 5-6 feet of thread is wrapped around the cardstock in case you need to hang your mobile from a high ceiling. All mobiles ordered in the US are shipped with the United States Postal Service via Priority Mail (2-3 business day shipping).
What if I want to order a mobile that is not listed for sale?
You have to email me and let me know what sort of mobile you are wanting to order, and I can quote you a price and send you a PayPal invoice.
What if I want a mobile made with special paper or specific materials?
Anything extra you may want to add (more models, extra levels, beads, special paper/wire, etc) will cost extra, and may add to production time. I can do just about anything you may want, but it costs me more to purchase those extra materials, and often times it requires that I make a trip somewhere to find special materials. Once I know the cost of everything I can quote you a price and send you a PayPal invoice for the total.
What sort of wire do you use and where can I buy wires?
I cut and bend all my own wires, so you can’t buy cut and bent wires anywhere. I use bright finish spring tempered stainless steel in a variety of diameters for each mobile. For a beginner mobile maker I would recommend using a softer wire such as aluminum – it’s not as pretty but it’s easier to work with. You can buy some 18 gauge aluminum wire at craft stores in the floral section (where you find styrofoam shapes).
Do you offer any discounts?
Typically, no, but once a year I do offer a free shipping sale during the last week of November.
Where are you located?
In Massachusetts, so any orders from the East Coast reach their destinations more quickly.
What is your international shipping policy?
I ship anywhere in the world with the United States Postal Service, but the shipping prices are different for each country. I have preset shipping prices for some countries which I receive orders from more frequently (Canada, Australia, the United Kingdom to name a few). In those cases you can just place your order right away, otherwise you have to email me and wait for me to set up shipping to your country.
